Being in the IT profession since the 6th grade I have worked many angles all the way from my first text based fortune telling game using Quick Basic at the age of 12, up to maintaining advanced Citrix farms, Qmail email relays, PBXs, VOIP phone systems and so on.
Whatever the situation, I tend to jump right in and fix the problem and then move on to the next. More than not, I do at least scribble somewhere what I did, or print an article for later reference if needed. However, the stack of manuals and file folders full of articles has become somewhat overwhelming. Most of the time it is easier for me to simply mull through the problem again, assuming I forgot how to fix it since yesterday and lost my sticky note, or Dogpile it! Take that Google!
My programming and software engineering professors from the early 90s would cringe at the method in my madness. "Comment and document" say I said, they would say. Therefore, in honor of all of you cubicle dwelling nerds like I that had professors like they many years ago, I say that from this day forward IT shall be mandated that this is my life, this is what I did today, this is my safehaven from all that is unholy or generally non IT related. This is my TPS report. Maybe I will remember the cover sheet hugh Peter?
